Gawker jumps the shark

January 5th, 2008 · No Comments

Fonzi’s got nothing on Nick Denton. First, Denton decides to give bonuses to bloggers based on pageviews, totally removing the last threat of actual journalism rearing its ugly head on any Gawker property (save for Lifehacker.. although even LH’s quality is slipping). Now this.

If the web were Slashdot’s comment system, this would score -1, Staged. Is this what passes for a post these days? If this is an honest reaction shot, I’ll eat my hat*.

Added to which, Gawker’s newest property, Sci-Fi blog io9 has been begging pageviews with Sci-Fi tits, ass and other bottom feeding.

I submit to you:
“Before Human-Cylon Love, There Was A Dude And His Cherry 2000″
“Sexy Recruitment Posters For The Empire”
“Which Sci-Fi Drug Do You Wish You Could Take?”
“In Sci-Fi, Third Breast Is More Common Than Third Eye”

Great first week you guys. Keep it up!

I fear that under Gawker’s new pay structure we’re destined to see more and more of this low-brow, lowest common denominator blogging.

Next on Gawker, bum fights.

* May or may not eat own hat.

Download Squad getting a facelift

October 17th, 2007 · No Comments

It’s finally coming! Download Squad is getting a facelift and the first fledgling signs are starting to go live.

Big thanks to all the hardworking mad geniuses working behind the scenes at Weblogs, Inc who’re making this happen.

Update: Scratch that. We’re not getting a full redesign just yet, only some feature updates which are still greatly appreciated.
