Promoted stories vs Buried Stories

This graph shows the relationship of promoted stories -- those stories which make the front page -- to buried stories -- those stories which disappear forever. Somewhat surprisingly, buried stories don't always exceed the number of promoted stories.

It is interesting to see high numbers of buried stories, and compare them to the graph below. If the activity of submitted stories hasn't increased to match, a higher percentage of total stories are being judged as spam or worse.

Active Users vs Submitted Stories

This graph shows the number of unique users submitting stories vs the number of stories submitted. By definition the number of stories must be higher than or equal to the number of users. A wide spread between the two lines indicates that one or more users are submitting stories at an above average rate.

It's a neat way of watching digg's ebb and flow of acitvity during the day.
