I heard yesterday that Vimeo pulled an Engadget video with little or no notice –depending on who you believe, Ryan or Vimeo’s dalas verdugo.
We use Vimeo at Download Squad to host many of our one-off videos, and episodes of The Squadcast. The encoding quality has always been fantastic, and I’ve had great experiences with their support. dalas almost instantly answers direct email, which is something you can’t say for Youtube, Metacafe, and other sites. This situation, however, is making me think twice about using Vimeo in the future.
Sure, I can understand why Vimeo wouldn’t want to take on RIM or get involved in a copyfight over a video which has little to do with the core mission of their site. What I can’t understand is why Vimeo wouldn’t make more of an effort to open a dialog with the number one blog in the world before taking such a drastic and final action.
Further exacerbating my irritation over this, *I* recommended Vimeo to Ryan Block when he twittered that Engadget was looking to leave YouTube behind. So, Ryan, sorry. My previous experiences with Vimeo really were great.
